![]() ![]() Since then, places like Prague have turned into a police states, and a pro-augmentation movement, ARC, has been blamed for a string of recent civilian bombings.Įnter Adam Jensen, now working for INTERPOL to piece together what’s going on by exploring Prague itself, and being sent out on a few away missions when the situation calls for it. Mankind Divided is content to ignore pretty much all the multiple choice endings offered to players at the end of that game, and simply focuses on the catastrophe that was the mass involuntary glitching of all augmented humans, creating chaos, death and destruction worldwide. ![]() The vast majority of the game, probably 70% or so, is set in Prague, where anti-augmentation prejudice is on the rise after the events of Human Revolution. I can’t tell Mankind Divided is smaller than its predecessor in terms of sheer land mass, but length? Without a doubt. Not that what is there isn’t interesting or fun to play, but it was unexpected all the same. I just can’t escape the feeling that there is simply less of Mankind Divided than there was of Human Revolution. Maybe about 10-12 hours total, even with all the exploring and sidequests. ![]() So, imagine my surprise when I did manage to finish the entire game, playing at a leisurely pace, in less than a day and a half. In short, I’m not sure how much more slowly I could have played this. It also meant exploring all the nooks and crannies I could find, and doing every side-quest I came across to completion. That meant a no-kill, all-stealth playthrough full of constant quicksaves and reloads when I screwed up. I almost gave up on the idea, and I simply wanted to play the game the way I would if there were no deadlines looming over my head. I was frankly surprised by my ability to finish the game before review embargo, my playtime cut short by a vacation. Human Revolution to Mankind Divided is at best a lateral move, meaning it doesn’t feel terribly fresh the second time around, but you could even argue that it takes a few steps back as well. This is not a case of a great original that got far better with a sequel, the way we see quality leaps from Uncharted 1 to 2, or Assassin’s Creed 1 to 2. It makes small improvements, no doubt based on feedback from the original, but it’s shorter, smaller and has a more convoluted plot. Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, five years later, is not a sequel that moves the series forward in a meaningful way. ![]()
